Daffodil Day

Dear Parents/Caregivers

Next Friday 29 August is Daffodil Day. At Woodstock School we are supporting this very worthy cause by ‘Getting Crazy Yellow Creative’. Everyone on this day is being encouraged to wear something yellow. There will be house points for those who join in the fun. We are also asking everyone to donate a gold coin to turn our class daffodil posters from yellow to gold. The money collected will be sent to the Cancer Society to help people and families dealing with cancer.
Please give generously.

Yours Sincerely

Kym Lenihan

Out of Zone Enrolment Information

The Woodstock Board of Trustees invites applications from parents who wish to
enrol their children at Woodstock School for the period

26 January to 03 July, 2015.

Enrolment at the school is governed by an Enrolment Scheme, details of which are available from the school office (this includes a description of the Home Zone)

The Board has determined that a total of 20 places are likely to be available for Out of Home Zone students during this period.

The exact number of places will depend on the number of applications received from students who live within the school’s enrolment zone.

Application forms are available from the school office ph (07) 855 6686,
 fax (07) 8537056, email frontoffice@woodstock.school.nz

The deadline for receipt of application for Out of Home Zone places is
4pm Thursday 16th October, 2014.

Parents who live within the home zone and who intend enrolling their child at any time should notify the school by Thursday 25 September, 2014 to assist the school in planning appropriately for this period. Students in the home zone are entitled to enrol at the school.

If the number of out of zone applications exceeds the number of places available, students will be selected by ballot (except in the case of special programmes, where the criteria in the enrolment scheme apply).

If a ballot for out of zone places is required, it will be held on
Monday 20th October, 2014. Parents will be informed of the outcome of the ballot within three school days of the ballot being held.

Announcement from our BOT Chair

08 August, 2014

To Staff and the Woodstock School Community

It is with a heavy heart that I must announce to you all that Mr Steve Ostermann has announced his retirement, effective the end of Term 1 2015.  His resignation was tendered at our recent Board Meeting and was accepted by the Board of Trustees.

Steve has been in the education sector for 47 years, with 23 years as our Principal.  Some of his many achievements as our Principal include the establishment of the Conductive Education Unit; the introduction of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) into our School; and his leadership with the implementation of our School Based Curriculum.  Steve is well respected by his peers for his leadership within the educational sector.  His passion for education as a whole has seen him leading the Fairfield Cluster Principal Team, as well as being heavily involved as the Chairman of the NZEI Waikato Principal’s Council and the Waikato Convenor of NZEI member support teams and a member of Ministry of Education National Reference Groups.

We will be ensuring Steve has an appropriate farewell before his final departure and future communications will come out as these details are finalised.   In the meantime, we wish Steve and his family all the best as he prepares for the exciting next phase of his life.

Yours sincerely

Sean Lewis

New Zealand Playhouse - Money due Friday 8 August

Dear Parents/Caregivers

Our school’s curriculum focus for Term 3 is based around The Arts. This can involve 1 or more of the following disciplines -Drama, Music, Visual Art and Dance.

To prepare and support the students with their learning around The Arts we have booked New Zealand Playhouse to perform to our students early this term. The theme of the presentation is Rap-unzel. Through this performance teachers will be able to discuss with their classes many elements of the presentation and hopefully incorporate some aspects into their own learning.
Rapunzel is the hot favourite to win ‘A Land Far Far Away’s Got Talent With X Factor Idol’. She’s a teenage triple threat, with the voice of Lady Gaga, the dance moves of Beyonce, and the hair of… Rapunzel!
But when she refuses to sign a contract with the udderly ruthless moosic producer Simon Cow, he locks her in a recording tower high above the enchanted forest to steal her singing voice with a magic tape machine.
What can Rapunzel do now she can’t sing? Rap!
With the help of a very handsome Fresh Prince, some very long hair, and a smattering of all your favourite fairytale characters, it’s time to flip this fairytale upside down, wave your hair in the air like you just don’t care, and put the RAP back into RAPunzel.
Sounds like a lot of FUN!!!!!

NZ Playhouse will be performing to the school on Wednesday 13 August. The performance is only available for students enrolled at Woodstock School. The cost of the show is $5.00 per pupil.

Please return the slip below and payment in a named envelope by Friday 8 August.

Yours sincerely

Maree Lewis
Acting Deputy Principal

"Move It, Challenge It” day

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

On Wednesday 6th August we will be holding our annual cross country event. This year our cross country is part of a “Move It, Challenge It” day.  Our postponement date is Friday 8th August.

As stated in our New Zealand Curriculum under Physical Education ‘by learning in, through and about movement, students gain an understanding that movement is an integral to human expression and that it can contribute to people’s pleasure and enhance their lives. Physical education encourages students to engage in movement experiences that promote and support the development of physical and social skills’.

The focus of “Move It, Challenge It” is for all of our Year 4 to 6 students to ‘get moving’ because they want to, not because they have to.

The first event will be: “Move It”, starting at 11am.
This event is run in a similar way to orienteering. Students work in house teams of 6-7 students. They will be given a variety of activities that encourage them to “Move It’.
We will require parents to assist with these activities. They will be organised for you.

The second event will be: “Challenge It, starting at 1.30pm.
This event is the traditional cross country event. It is open to any student that wishes to participate. This event will be run in year groups and gender groups (depending on the number of entries).  The course will be outside the school grounds. For safety reasons we will require a number of parent help for this. Please indicate below if you are able to assist.

The first four placegetters will be invited to the Fairfield Cluster Cross Country on 2nd September.

Apart from the starting time we are unable to give the exact starting time for each group in the Challenge It event.

Our aim is to have 100% participation from all our students on this day. We wish to develop positive lifelong attitudes towards physical activity.

Kind Regards
Senior School Cross Country Coordinators.
