Don't forget our Extreme Garage Sale

The Woodstock Extreme Garage Sale is on Saturday.  Don't forget we are asking parent/caregivers and families of Year 5 and 6 children to donate a grocery item for our raffle. Donated items can be left in the box at the school office.

We are also asking parent/caregivers and families of Year 1 - 4 children to donate items for a bake stall. These items could include biscuits, cakes, muffins, scones, cupcakes or loaves. These items should be dropped off at school at either 8.45 or 2.45 on Friday 22 March (clearly labelled and priced please).

All your efforts are most appreciated by the PTA and the Woodstock School Community.

Year 4 Camp Notice

Special Notice

PAID UNION MEETING –WEDNESDAY 2OTH MARCH 2013

As mentioned last week, it is the intention of the NZEI Te Riu Roa to hold paid union meetings for all NZEI members. The meeting our staff will attend is at Claudelands Event Centre tomorrow Wednesday 20th March from 1.30pm – 3.30pm. We will have a limited number of teachers who will stay behind to supervise children.

In the past the Board has asked parents to make arrangements to collect their children at 1.00pm and take them home. We would be most appreciative if you could do this again.

At the end of this notice is a return slip which we would like you to complete and send back to your child’s teacher indicating that your child will be leaving at lunchtime tomorrow.

Children who do not return a slip must stay at school.

Uniform Survey Results

Results of School Uniform Survey: thank you to all parents who responded!

The subcommittee formed to look into the possibility of a compulsory school uniform at Woodstock School can now report on the results of the survey and the next steps in consultation. The outcome of the survey was very close, with almost even numbers of replies for and against a school uniform, including those who wished to stick with the current policy. Many of you provide
great reasons for your decision, all of which have been carefully considered. The potential cost of the school uniform emerged as a significant factor for many parents, with some parents suggesting that additional costs for their families, and for other families, would be very difficult. Others reported that a uniform could cut down on the costs of wear and tear on everyday clothing. Many people also suggested that children should have freedom of expression, while others hoped that a uniform might provide more school community and an enhanced sense of belonging. Not many people wanted to attend a ‘debate’ on the question. The basic results are shown in this table:

Table 1: Basic count: ‘I think a compulsory school uniform at Woodstock School would be a good idea’ YES

*Surveys collated and analysed, 18 February 2013: almost half of the Year 1-4 student body responded (thank you).
The next step, approved by the Board of Trustees, is to ask you all to VOTE on this issue in the weeks ahead. When we ask you to do so we will include information about the potential costs so that you can make an informed decision.
