Principal's Newsletter 11 April

Here is the latest newsletter from the Principal's Desk.

School Closing Early

Dear Parents/Caregivers

IMPORTANT NOTICE – PLEASE READ

As you are aware from previous newsletters Woodstock School is about to embark on the introduction of the Cool Schools Peer Mediation Programme.

Cool Schools is a whole-school proactive programme that teaches essential life skills for peaceful conflict resolution. The skills taught in this programme empower individuals to build positive, caring relationships with others especially in times of conflict.  Staff will be trained in these skills, so they can be passed onto the students in their classrooms. This includes junior children!

We held a very successful parent information evening last week that was well received from those parents who attended.

Next week all staff will undergo the training of Cool Schools so that we can begin to implement this programme into the classrooms.

This Professional Development session will take place on Tuesday 15 April. On this day lunch will start at 12pm and finish at 1pm. Students will go back into the classroom for the afternoon attendance roll. School will then close at 1.30pm to allow staff to attend this professional development.

So we can ensure the safety of your child by being informed how they will be getting home on this day we require the attached form to be completed for each of your children and returned to the classroom teacher

For those who are unable to collect their child until normal time of 2.45pm, there will be supervision available.

The After School Care programme will be operational from the normal times. If your child normally attends After School Care on Tuesday and you do not need the service for that day then please ensure that you notify them of this change.

Please discuss with your child(ren) about what will happen on this particular day, April 15. If you have any further questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact me via the office on 855 6686.

Mrs Smith (Ben’s Mum) Extra transport

Mrs Wasley (Caitlyn’s Mum)

Please, please, please, do not be offended if you did volunteer and were not asked to join us on the camp.  We really appreciate your offers of help and we are very sorry we cannot have more parents come and assist.

If you are assisting with transport and/or supervision on camp, a notice will be sent home soon for police vetting purposes.  We did find that last year, we did have a few circumstances arise closer to the time, when we had to request extra parents to help with transport and supervising overnight, due to illness and changing work commitments.  So if you find you are unable to assist for any reason, please let us know.
A big thank you to the families who have already paid or have made part payment towards the camp fee of $65.

Please contact the office of you wish to arrange a payment schedule to help pay off the account.

Kind Regards,

Rachael Tangney, Anna Crawford and Rebecca Low

Year 1-2 Netball

Friday 4th April 2014

Woodstock Year 1 &2 Netball 2014

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

Your child has shown an interest in playing junior netball for Woodstock School this year. Please take the time to talk with your child to ensure they are committed to being in a team for the entire duration of the season before returning the information form below.

Season Calendar:

Ø  Junior netball begins on Wednesday 14th May (Week 2 of Term 2) and runs for 8 weeks.

Ø  Junior netball is a modified game played on one third of the netball court with hula hoops as goals and only 4 players from each team with no allocate positions.

Ø  It is played from 3:45-4:45 on Wednesday afternoons at Minogue Park. The hour consists of a 30 minute skills and drills session and a 30 minute game.

Ø  The team consists of a maximum of 6 players and there are 4 players on the court during the game.

Ø  The players need to wear sports shoes, shorts and a t-shirt. They will be provided with bibs.

Star Helpers (Coach):
The star helper is the coach of the team. They must attend the training session at Minogue Park on Wednesday 7th May (there may be facilities for child care offered during this training). Each team of 6 players must have one star helper and one other helper which could be an older sibling. As with all sports at Woodstock school we rely on volunteers for these roles. Please indicate on the form below whether you would be available to assist us in this area. As the Wednesday session consists of skills and game time the children would not be required to have an extra practice time.  Your time and efforts are greatly appreciated

Indication of Fees:
An indication of 2014 Junior Netball fees is approx $45.00 per player for the entire season. Please do not pay fees until you are invoiced from the school office and your child’s team has been finalised.

If you have any queries regarding Junior Netball for the 2014 season, please do not hesitate to contact me at school on 07 855 6686.

Kind regards,
Tara McAuley (Netball Coordinator 2014)
