Kauri's trip to Mystery Creek Museum

29 May 2014
Dear Parents/Caregivers,

Stepping Back in Time . . .

As part of our learning this term, we are able to attend the ‘Ag Village’ at Mystery Creek, to experience life from 100 years ago.  The facilitator from the Te Awamutu Museum, who spent a morning with us learning about toys from the past earlier this term, will join us at Mystery Creek, taking us through a range of learning activities.  We we will be able to step back in time; role playing different aspects of life.  The children will “explore the restored heritage buildings in a peaceful lake setting. The schoolhouse, hospital, church, blacksmith and garage are authentically furnished, and kids especially love the 19th century jail! Pump petrol at the Clydesdale Garage, try out a 100 year old school desk and ring the school bell!”
When: Monday 23rd June 2014
Venue: Mystery Creek Events Centre – ‘Ag Village’
Time:  We will leave school at 9.15am, and return to school at 1.45pm.
How will we travel?:  By bus

The cost of the trip is $11 per child.  This covers the cost of the bus to Mystery Creek, and the admission to the Historic Village and Dairy Museum.
We do require adults to accompany us, to help with supervision on the day and to help the trip to be a success. (No pre-schoolers please). There is no cost for parents and there is room on the bus for parents to ride along with us.  (We do ask that one car be taken, as an emergency vehicle).
Please fill in the form below and return to school with the $11 payment, in a clearly labelled envelope by Friday Tuesday 17th June 2014.
Thank you for your support.
Rachael Tangney, Anna Crawford and Rebecca Low

Historical Dress Up Day

Back In Time
Hamilton 150 Years
On Friday 13th June, Woodstock School is having a special day, where everyone can dress up like the 1900s.  We encourage everyone to come to school on the day, dressed as they would 150 years ago.

We look forward to a fun day, as we compare our school life today with those people of early Hamilton.

Woodstock School’s Going Waste Free Everyday

Our Waste Free days have been so successful in reducing rubbish that we will be going WASTE FREE EVERYDAY for the rest of the term. Waste Free Schools all over New Zealand find this to be a successful venture for both creating and maintaining healthy environments, with an added benefit of saving money on rubbish disposal. This will be a great way to keep the clean, green image of Woodstock School.

WASTE FREE DAYS will start Monday 26th May!

We ask that EVERY DAY everyone…
 Packs a NUDE FOOD lunch –where your child’s lunch contains as few items as possible that must be thrown away.
 Uses the WORM BINS to recycle our food scraps.
 Uses the PAPER RECYCLING BOXES for our paper ‘rubbish’.
 THERE ARE NO RED BINS in the playground and the classroom rubbish bins will also be No Go Zones!!!

All other rubbish will be taken home with the children. Wrappers, chip packets, yoghurt containers etc. will be put back into lunch boxes to take home. We will encourage the children to rinse their yoghurt containers first.

This means no litter leaves the classrooms at interval. Packing NUDE FOOD lunch boxes can be a challenge, but here are some ideas to help us…
- Using re-useable bags.
- Peeling Fruit and popping straight into your lunchbox
- Unwrapping Muesli Bars Etc at home before you pack the lunch

O.K. Krew Performance 22 May

Wednesday 7 May

Dear Parents/Caregivers
Woodstock School has the fantastic opportunity to watch the O.K.Krew (Ordinary Kidz Krew) in action, at our school on Thursday 22nd May. The O.K. Krew is a haka/dance fusion group from Turangi. They were contestants on New Zealand’s Got Talent 2013. They are a vibrant and energetic group of young performers.

It is very timely for our students at Woodstock to observe this group in action as our curriculum focus for Term 3 is The Arts.

The standard fee for this 40 minute show is $3.00 per student. This performance is for students enrolled at Woodstock School only. Only those students who have paid will be able to attend this performance.

Please fill in the permission form below and return to the school office, along with $3.00  per student in a named envelope by Tuesday 20 May.
