Samoan Language Week

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Talofa lava
‘O la tätou gagana Sämoa i Niu Sila      ‘Our Samoan language in New Zealand’

This week we celebrate the third most used language in NZ, the Samoan language.
The theme of Samoan Language Week 2013 is "Fafaga fanau i upu ma tala. Tautala i lau gagana" or "Feed the children with words and stories. Speak your language".

Children have been busy this week doing activities around this theme. Our assembly on Friday will celebrate our Samoan Language week.

Tomorrow (Friday) we are re-arranging the timetable so that we can accommodate the visit of the Samoan performance group for Ham Boys High.  The assembly time has been changed from 9am start to 12.30pm start.

Therefore the rearranged timetable for Friday is as follows;

08.45am               Schools starts as normal
10.25am               Morning tea break as normal
10.45am               School resumes as normal
11.45am               Lunch break starts
12.30pm               Lunch break ends and Full school Samoan Language celebration assembly begins and HBHS Performance
1.45pm                School assembly finishes (approx.) Classes back to their rooms
2.30pm                 Lowering of the Samoan National Flag
2.45pm                 End of school as normal

Don't forget no school on Monday

Just a reminder that school is closed on Monday 27 May for our Teacher Only Day

This is to enable all classroom teachers to participate in a professional development day with Alison Davies, a leading NZ Professional Development Reading curriculum expert.

This consequently means that another day will be added to the end of year which moves from Thursday 12 December, to a new closing date, Friday 13 December.

Senior Camp

The weather was on the side of our senior students, and the camps proved to be memorable, and everyone has enjoyed participating in EOTC activities. Many thanks once again, to our drivers and parent helpers, without whom, a camp like this would not be possible. Thanks also, to those generous parents who donated funds towards camp, and to everyone who supported our fundraising activities.

Quotes from the students:

- ‘ I learnt that I need to be more brave when it comes to challenges’- Cameron Hicks
- ‘ It was challenging walking up the Mount because there were so many steps’ – George Smith
- ‘ Even though I was scared to go on the Blob, Lucy said we would do it together, so I trusted her and we did it!- Lela Ieremia
- ‘Out of the whole experience, my favourite was kayaking, because it is one of my favourite sports’ – Caleb Wesselson
- ‘Just because you think you can’t do it, doesn’t MEAN you can’t’ – Lucy Vellenoweth
- ‘ You need to persevere, and work as a Team’ – Thomas Mc Adams
