The subcommittee formed to look into the possibility of a compulsory school uniform at Woodstock School can now report on the results of the survey and the next steps in consultation. The outcome of the survey was very close, with almost even numbers of replies for and against a school uniform, including those who wished to stick with the current policy. Many of you provide great reasons for your decision, all of which have been carefully considered. The potential cost of the school uniform emerged as a significant factor for many parents, with some parents suggesting that additional costs for their families, and for other families, would be very difficult. Others reported that a uniform could cut down on the costs of wear and tear on everyday clothing. Many people also suggested that children should have freedom of expression, while others hoped that a uniform might provide more school community and an enhanced sense of belonging. Not many people wanted to attend a ‘debate’ on the question. The basic results are shown in this table:

*Surveys collated and analysed, 18 February 2013: almost half of the Year 1-4 student body responded (thank you).
The next step, approved by the Board of Trustees, is to ask you all to VOTE on this issue in the weeks ahead. When we ask you to do so we will include information about the potential costs so that you can make an informed decision.
