Round the Bridges
Round the Bridges
It was a brilliant sunny Sunday with excitement filling the air as children were getting ready for the annual Round the Bridges running race. The year 3 and 4 runners were first as they ran down Victoria Street there was lots of encouragement and cheering. The same was given to all the year 5 and 6 runners too. Altogether it was a fun and exciting day. Well done! To all of our runners.

Athletics Day
Pohutakawa Syndicate Athletics 2011
On Monday the 14th of November the senior syndicate had their fantastic annual athletics day.
The weather was perfect and sunny and not a cloud in the sky. The day ran smoothly and a lot of parents came to watch. The morning events consisted of long jump, tennis ball throw, Shot put, discus, high jump and the fierce sprint heats. Then in the afternoon there was the sprint finals, the tough 800m run, and then the always exiting house relays. Congratulations too everyone who participated and gave it a go!
Good luck too the place getters who will compete at cluster interschool’s at Southwell School.

Spellathon Infomation
Dear Parent/Caregivers
We are holding a Spelling Bee over the next four weeks of Term 3, with the dual aims of developing our students’ skills and knowledge in the area of spelling and as a PTA fundraising initiative. The Woodstock School Spelling Bee involves the children learning their words before being tested in a written test. The senior children of the school will have the opportunity to be considered and compete for a place in The Great Waikato ASB Spelling Bee. More information will be made available to the Year 5 and 6 children.
All students will be given an appropriate spelling list of words to learn and a sponsorship form.
The Spelling Bee will be a component of our homework focus. It is expected that the children will learn their words at home to be well prepared for an excellent Spelling Bee score.
The students can seek sponsors who will sponsor so much per word, or can make a donation towards the event. Please encourage as many family and friends to become involved as you can.
When the testing is completed in Week 6 of this term, your child will come home with a Score Card from their teacher indicating the number of words that they got correct in their test. The students can then collect the money from their sponsors.
All money and sponsorship forms must be returned to the school office by Friday 23rd September 2011.
We look forward to a wonderful response!

Road Side Art Unveiling
You may have seen some painted poles decorating the side of the road on Casey Ave. These were designed, and painted, by a group of Year Five and Six Woodstock School and St Joseph's School children under the leadership of Nicole Glover. The six poles represent the six bridges of Hamilton, as well as the various well known events and activities that are carried out in the city. Each pole has a different theme:- the Hamilton Balloon Festival, children of Woodstock and St Joseph's schools, V8 car races, the Hamilton logo, waka/canoes on the river and the Waikato sports team colours. The poles are shaped in a way to represent the school's closest bridge, which is the Fairfield Bridge. The poles were officially unveiled on the wet and blustery Thursday July 14th, by Councillor Maria Westphal. The children involved were given certificates and prizes by Mayor Julie Hardaker.
